CHRIST (AND ROCKETS) AT THE CHECKPOINT

Recently the third annual Christ at the Checkpoint conference was held at the Bethlehem Bible College in Bethlehem. Christians from around the world gathered for five days of anti-Israel lectures, films and tours. Most of the speakers blamed the Arab-Israeli conflict on Israel alone. Even as rockets rain down on southern Israel from Gaza, they bemoan the "horrors" of Israeli checkpoints without ever mentioning the Palestinian terror that necessitates them. Many are preaching replacement theology...that God has rejected the Jewish people and broken His covenant with them. Funding for the conference is being provided, in part, from the U.S., U.K., and Dutch governments according to a recent report by the Jerusalem-based watchdog group NGO Monitor. (CUFI)

ISRAELI GOVERNMENT DENOUNCES “CHRIST AT THE CHECKPOINT”

Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has issued a statement suggesting Christians avoid the “Christ at the Checkpoint” (CATC) conference in Palestinian-held Bethlehem. The statement regards the conference as a serious long-term threat to Israel's security. The official statement from the MFA is as follows: "The attempt to use religious motifs in order to mobilize political propaganda and agitate the feelings of the faithful through the manipulation of religion and politics is an unacceptable and shameful act. Using religion for the purpose of incitement in the service of political interests stains the person who does it with a stain of indelible infamy". The Israeli government issued the warning as it became clear that Palestinian evangelicals are misusing Christian teachings to inflame anti-Israel passions. The government recently revealed that some of the leading figures at CATC have very close ties to the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement that aims to delegitimize and undermine the Jewish State.
